House Beautiful- small homes

I loved the small homes feature in the July issue of House Beautiful. As a New Yorker where every space is a small space , it's great to see how others overcome the spatial challenge. Here are two of my favorites that reflect the two sides of my decorating personality...breezy and moody. See all of breezy here and all of urbane here...scroll through the page for more highlights.

Marketo 55 decor

You must check out the decor at Merkato 55 if you love globally inspired decor. Chef Marcus Samuelsson sought to celebrate the cultural melting pot of the African continent with infusions of Indian, Portuguese, British, Caribbean and South American flavors. The dark, moody setting is just my kind of feel for a restaurant and I love the rich woods and oversized images. This is on my list of places to try for my birthday.

EQ3

I'm not sure where I first heard of EQ3 but I love their modern options for furniture and accessories. I'd rather purchase furniture in person but as their only showroom is in MA, I've been sorely tempted to buy online. Isn't that couch fantastic?

Studio Bon

I was getting my daily dose of design*sponge this morning and read about Studio Bon. I heard of them when Grace first wrote about Bonnee's textiles, but with the newly updated website I'm head over heels again. Studio Bon hand screens all of their graphic patterns onto cotton canvas or a basket weave cotton/rayon blend and they are all equally fabulous. As I'm in that process of moving into small scale production with my patterns, it's so exciting to see companies I admire grow and offer new options to the market.

Kristin Slaby

So we're watching Iron Chef last night when an ad comes on for their new food stylist competition/show. My hubby turns to me with a quizzical look on his face and goes..."what's a food stylist?" I then explain the rigors of making food look amazing and share my one food styling bit of knowledge...perfect ice cream scoops that make your mouth water are often perfect mashed potato scoops. Ha! He wasn't nearly as excited as I was but that's understandable. This is the fantastic work of Kristin Slaby ...I love the simplicity in all of her shots where the product takes center stage.

Nonchalant Mom at home

One of my favorite house tours from Domino was this months issue with Nonchalant Mom's Carina Schott. My husband and I have always wanted to build a gorgeous pre-fab that opens up to nature and this is pretty near the image in my head. I love that Carina's pad is so relaxed and care-free but doesn't shy away from beautiful, well designed pieces. I also love the bold fabrics she has chosen and the pops of my favorite color right now...yellow! If this is the life of a Nonchalant Mom...I'll take it!

Martin Amm Photography

I came across this image while reading Sub-Studio and was just awestruck. Although I'm a nature lover, everything but butterflies send me running for cover...especially if they buzz and sting. These images though make me want to get a little closer to nature with camera in hand...ok, and running shoes on...just in case :) Photographer Martin Amm has the most amazing gallery of nature and it's tiny inhabitants. Anyone know if he has a webshop?
